Conference objectives

The purpose of the conference is to provide a forum to policy makers, researchers, skills training providers and educators, development specialists and others interested in strengthening and activating the informal sector to exchange and share information and experiences and to discus strategies for coping with the present and future demands of educational, technical and life skills for employment and income generation. Therefore, the conference will provide key partners with crucial inputs on the current social and economic demands and policy directions in order to enable a focussed discussion on innovative strategies for skills development in and for the informal sector.

Specifically, the conference has the following objectives:

    1. share good practices on skill development for the informal sector in India
    2. develop a vision on how skill development for the informal sector can contribute to sustainable economic and social development
    3. draw policy implications and strategies on the provision of effective training services for the informal sector
    4. provide a platform for networking of stakeholders promoting the informal sector in India
